Colorado Springs Overview

The Mile High City has a lot to crow about these days. The Denver Broncos have won back-to-back Super Bowls, the city remains the one true gateway to the Rocky Mountains, and visitors continue to make it one of their top destinations. Denver is a large city, with over two million residents, and it naturally has a great deal to offer visitors in its varied neighborhoods, some of which date back to gold rush days of the 1850's.

Denver's many different neighborhoods all share a common trait of being incredible hospitable and visitor-friendly. The main downtown area has been turned into a pedestrian only zone, and visitors can find a great deal to occupy themselves there. The Lower Downtown, or LoDo, features galleries, brewpubs, restaurants, and shops. It has been the focus of revitalization efforts in recent years, and the efforts have produced wonderful effects. Finally, Larimer Square has been restored to its Victorian past, with its beautiful streets and houses.

As the biggest city for over 600 miles around, Denver is the cultural focus of the Rocky Mountain States. The Denver Art Museum features art from around the world, and it has particularly splendid exhibits of Nave American art. The Colorado History Museum features detailed historical dioramas and a large and interesting collection of photos of life in the Wild West. The Black American West Museum presents a lively picture of black pioneers, cowboys, and outlaws. Finally, the Children's Museum of Denver attracts lots of visitors each year to its friendly environment.

The view from Denver's State Capitol building showcases the Rocky Mountains that rise to the city's west. Informal free tours allow visitors to climb to the top of the capitol and take in the view, both of the bustling Denver downtown and the beautiful landscape surrounding the city. Visitors can now look down and see the new Ocean Journey Aquarium, which became a new Denver attraction in 1999. They can also see Denver's beautiful neighborhoods and bustling downtown. Visitors to Denver enjoy the cultural attributes of the city, but they also enjoy the natural beauty that surrounds the city. Visitors are encouraged to see for themselves the splendor of the Rocky Mountains, using Denver as their starting point of course.

The Broadmoor
Click For More DetailsLocated in Colorado Springs at the foot of the Rockies, The Broadmoor provides an environment of unparalleled beauty and luxury. One of the few resorts in the country to have earned the Mobil Five Star and the AAA Five Diamond ratings every year since the awards were established, the Broadmoor is proud to provide guests with the finest in accommodations and services. The resort was founded in 1918 by Spencer and Julie Penrose, a couple who made a fortune in gold and copper mines. After traveling all over the globe, they decided to bring the world of opulence and elegance that they had experienced in Europe and the Orient to the city that they had chosen as their home. Since then, the resort has grown from a hotel that catered to millionaires with polo ponies to a world-renowned destination for professional meetings, vacations, and spa treatments. Known for its gentle climate and dry mountain air, the Broadmoor has been providing visitors with the perfect spot to work, relax, or enjoy a myriad of recreational possibilities for over 75 years. For a detailed history of the Broadmoor and the Colorado Springs area see Broadmoor Memories - The History of the Broadmoor by Elena Bertozzi-Villa. This hardcover book with hundreds of photographs is on sale in most local bookstores.
